Grace & Grit is our women’s-only Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fundamentals class in Mount Pleasant, SC. If you’re brand new, anxious about starting, or just want a focused room where you can learn without pressure, this is built for you.
You’ll learn the essentials step-by-step: how to move, how to stay safe in common positions, how to escape, and how to build calm confidence through consistent practice. No intimidation, no chaos—just clear coaching and steady progress.
Class meets every Thursday from 6:00–7:00 PM, and it’s led by Ann Bord (Brown Belt). Come as you are, start where you are, and we’ll guide you from there.

We focus on fundamentals that help you feel more in control—physically and mentally—so you can build confidence with a real foundation.
Safe movement basics (base, posture, balance)
Positional awareness (what’s happening and what to do next)
Escapes and defenses from common positions
Simple, effective control concepts (without relying on strength)
Optional, coached drilling and light positional training as appropriate

Ann Bord (Brown Belt)
Coach Ann is a Jiu Jitsu instructor who emphasizes resilience, respect, and discipline in her teaching. She employs a consistent structure in her classes, incorporating a clear code of conduct, regular drills, positional sparring, and goal-setting. Ann focuses on individual coaching, tailoring feedback to each student’s strengths and challenges.
Understanding the link between technical skills and mental resilience, she adapts her methods to suit diverse learning styles.
To promote higher proficiency, Coach Ann encourages a disciplined mindset and advises students to minimize distractions, practice at home, and visualize techniques. By creating an enjoyable and interactive training environment, she motivates her students to engage actively in their learning.
Coach Ann's commitment to Jiu Jitsu has earned her several accolades, including victories in the IBJJF World Masters Championships in the Blue, Purple, and Brown Belt Divisions. She has established herself as an important figure in the Charleston Jiu Jitsu community, sharing valuable life lessons along with teaching martial arts skills.

Safety and training rules
We keep training safe and productive with simple standards that everyone follows.
Rules:
Tap early, tap often. If you feel uncomfortable, you can stop at any time.
No cranking submissions. Controlled technique only.
Respect your training partner’s boundaries and communication.
Partners are matched thoughtfully (size, experience, intensity).
Good hygiene is required (clean uniform, trimmed nails, no strong fragrances).
If you’re sick or have a skin issue, please sit out and recover first.
Listen to the coach and prioritize safety over “winning” in training.

Athletic leggings/shorts + fitted top or t-shirt works for a trial
